Redtone Records is a collective of independent artists promoting cultural and community preservation in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization providing artists with financial, technical and operational support.

The majority of our artists come from Black and African diasporic communities which are vanishing from this region at an alarming rate. From 1990 to today, San Francisco, Oakland and East Palo Alto have each lost at least 50% of their Black populations.

 

More broadly, the Bay Area has been losing artists from all backgrounds as the housing market has made affordability exceedingly difficult. As this trend continues, we are curating spaces for artists to create and collaborate, building cultural strongholds against the wave of displacement.

We believe music plays a unique role in sustaining a culturally thriving Bay Area. The music we create carries with it a vision for strong and healthy communities, for women in power, for a future built on equity, ancestral wisdom and care for the earth.

In order to ensure the ongoing advancement of this vision, we built our East Palo Alto recording studio and cultural hub, where our artists record and distribute their music for free. At the same time, recognizing the power of live music to unite, elevate and inspire, we also emphasize bringing music directly to the people.

Our house concerts are designed for that purpose, to inspire a growing movement of artists, fans, patrons, and more to join us in working towards the future we envision. We are building a network of concert hosts looking to bring the magic of this music and community into their homes. These concerts also serve as opportunities for us to raise financial support for our artists, our studio and our collective as a whole.
